more on what was, what lies ahead and the in-betweens

June 3, 2006

imagine being a nine-year-old kid again and you’re told by your older sib that your parents will get you that brand new toy you’ve always wanted for your birthday.

your sib then cautions you, "don’t let on that you know this, alright?", and gives you a wink.

you go through the next days feeling excited. deep down, you know that what you feel is MORE than excitement. if you already knew what "elation" means at that age, you could have chosen that word.

then, your parents tell you that they will buy you that toy you want for your birthday but they can’t tell you on which birthday you’ll receive it.  this year. no. maybe next year. wait. probably, three years from now.

"well, we just can’t tell for sure when you’ll get it. [5 seconds of silence] but you’ll get it. promise." then they both kiss you on your cheeks.

i am that kid.

the Boss spoke to me yesterday and congratulated me for getting the 2nd place on the order of merit for the QO (quality officer) position. it just means that i am second in line to move to QA. the catch? the first one will move there not until august arrives. and they can’t tell when my time will come… december, next year… hehe. i don’t know. they don’t know either.

i’m flawed. of course, there is a part of me that’s a bit disappointed. i mean, who wouldn’t be? but as the Boss puts it, the waiting should not be thought of as wasted time. i already decided on that, the minute she told me they can’t tell (just yet) when i’ll be let go from our team to transfer to QA.

with the hell we’ve been going through in the past few weeks?! i wasn’t that surprised at all about their move to delay things. i seriously hope it happens before the year ends or by september or by monday. [that’s wishful thinking. nooninoo.]

the good thing about it is that i also have another stint in the office. so, it’s easier to bear the bad news… i am one of the smes (subject matter experts). har.har.har. i was a (quasi-)trainer two weeks ago and handled 2 batches of trainees for wealth management. i had a great time and i made a mental note to think about a career in training. hmmm… and i was told i was a natural [*blushes*]. aww.
